The River 06:51
Tide’s rising, bridge is out You hear warning from a liar’s mouth Storm’s coming, heading south Drowning silhouettes as the color washes out Don’t wait too long (It’s too late) Both roads lead back to the same old mistake But do they want for more on the opposite shore? Are their skies a brighter blue or are they just like you? You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the rain Waiting on the sun to deliver as the clouds come darken the plain Haze in the sky, you’re not sure why, don’t that seem strange? You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the rain Wind’s blowing, skies are gray Overcast means no work today Storm’s coming, hard to say Words an honest man might have to betray Time’s ticking, power’s out A fortune’s worth of debts to mount Storm’s coming, reaping doubt Still no harvest when a flood ends the drought Don’t wait too long (we don’t know) You planted them too far down and now it won’t grow But do they want for more on the opposite shore? Are their greens a deeper hue or could it all be true? You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the rain Waiting on the sun to deliver as the clouds come to darken the plain Haze in the sky, you’re not sure why but today, it might be a strange one You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the flood when the rain comes From inside it’s just like dusk all day You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the rain Waiting on the sun to deliver as the clouds come to darken the plain Haze in the sky, you’re not sure why but this year sure feels like a strange one You’re the only one by the river who don’t fear the flood when the rain comes

Drafting 02:33
Dollar fifty drafts, a jukebox full of cash Watch the fish jump from the sea Dollar fifty spent, joy for sale or rent The feeling never lied, at least it never lied to me Shot and a beer, getting loud in here Gulls fight for trash on the beach Proposition and propose, decompress and decompose Maybe paradise just ain't the place for me Happy hour’s done, doubts are two for one Watch it all wash to the sea Now the final drafts all end up in the trash A copy of a copy of a sketch and I guess (In the wind is where we stay, where we’ve been is now washing away) We all fear the comedown But you can’t fall if you don’t leave ground Older versions follow you around Maybe paradise just ain’t the place to be found

Fair Enough 03:47
I rode in on the horse I bet against Odds were bad, I didn’t mind First off the fence, nearly last across the line But it felt a lot like winning this time A dead dead world, shining in the valley of the sun I called and got no one, the chips were down, the drinks were free, It felt like winning to me I didn’t want to run, looked for the worst and I always found it That face I can’t afford to see (and it don’t look the same to me) What’s mine is yours and all but I set mine down and can’t seem to find it What’s min is yours but mine is all gone (We won’t move on) I can’t move on at all, I’d tell the truth but what’s behind it? We all hear something else in our minds I get in line, I crack a smile Cuz it felt just like winning for a while So what’s mine is yours and all but I set mine down What’s mine is yours but mine is all gone

The King 04:54
You’re thinking someone gave a damn Cuz they all knew your name But years passed and pretty fast Things just ain’t the same You’re still in all the right places And you still shake their hands But you know that they’re staring at A portrait of a frightened man Are you filling empty spaces? Is everyone your friend? Can you crown yourself king of the underground again? Wearing those insecurities Like your old leather coat You trust they don’t see the rust On those brand new songs you wrote Pretending you don’t give a damn And studying the night Bum smokes and retell jokes But something about your timing isn’t right You’re thinking someone gave a damn Cuz they all knew your name But pretty soon it’s an empty room And the silence sounds like shame You still whistle the melody Oh, but you forgot the song But nothing lasts and what came to pass Is what you knew all along You’ve heard it all before You’ll hear it all again You’re thinking someone gave a damn Cuz they all knew your name They’re gone, the curtains drawn, and you still play on all the same

Overcasting 06:49
Everything was shrinking down to nothing While I tried to make up for lost time Some say to only move at sunrise But when the moon hangs high, I might roll the dice Despite the dangers, to spite all the facts We ride strong currents down the wrong tracks I still keep in deep water And I’m about to make a big mistake Now it feels like I’m miles away Cuz I’ve been walking too long Though it took me a while to say I guess I must’ve been wrong Cuz I’m lost and I’ve been lost since I’ve been gone Everything was trying to tell me something While I tried to catch up to last light All they want is to see the sunrise Can’t blame them for trying, but I still might I heard them calling, I hear the bell ring They tell the same story over again I don’t think that I need it But I do, I do, I do I never thought to ask, I never needed to know That moving along means losing control Staring past it, finally saying nothing That’s the price you pay for following a plan All of this is more than what I aimed for I might not find a good place to land Everything was haze on the horizon All the landmarks look almost the same Coming to a place beyond familiar The picture was gone but I still kept the frame As good as expected, as bad as they said We burn maps of all the paths we tread Neck deep in the same water On the never ending long way home

about

timing's debut, "Storm's Coming", is a concept album where meteorology is the metaphor for life’s everyday anxiety and unease, where the thunderheads are always lurking somewhere on the horizon, where the river is always threatening to flood its banks.
